Contact corrosion

Contact corrosion, also known as bimetallic corrosion, is corrosion caused by an electrochemical reaction between two different metallic materials in contact with one another and moisture. The less noble metal becomes an anode and rapidly disintegrates - the more noble metal becomes a cathode and the rate of disintegration slows.
