MAN 183-3: New zinc flake system approved!

The MAN specification 183-3 has recently been extended to include a black surface coating. In the scope of this a further zinc flake coating from DÖRKEN Coatings has been added to a new section of the standard.

Expansion of the specification to include new surface coating

Specification MAN 183-3 defines the precise corrosion protection requirements for construction elements used in MAN commercial vehicles. In the course of an extensive update of the standard a new, black surface coating for threaded connections has now been added under the abbreviation “X1”. The premium zinc flake system comprising the DELTA-PROTEKT® KL 120 base coat and DELTA-PROTEKT® VH 321 GZ top coat satisfies the strict criteria of the manufacturer MAN and has now been officially included in the new section of the specification.

Maximum corrosion protection and attractive black appearance

The high-performance zinc flake system – which for some time now has also been approved for Volkswagen specification TL 180 – is applied using the classic dip-spin process. It guarantees superb white rust resistance of 240 h in accordance with salt spray testing (DIN EN ISO 9227) together with good red rust resistance and media resistance. This ensures reliable function and long lifetime of the fastening elements fitted to MAN commercial vehicles. The special inorganic top coat with integrated lubricant also guarantees the fulfilment of the required multifunctional characteristics such as constant coefficients of friction, thus ensuring an even, black surface appearance.

DÖRKEN Coatings Key Account Manager Martin Juros explains: “We are delighted that our zinc flake systems have once again been approved by MAN. This further underscores the enormous capability and reliability of our corrosion protection products."
