Gloss Level

The gloss level is an indicator of how strongly a ray of light is reflected by a coating and thereby an elementary product characteristic of a surface coating.

The gloss level is usually determined using a reflectometer as test instrument. This enables the gloss to be measured in GU (gloss units). Specifically, the term gloss is defined here as the ratio between the light beamed in and the light reflected from the surface at the respectively chosen angle of reflection.
