Quality management (QM) refers to all organisational measures that serve to improve process quality, performance and therefore products of all kinds.
The best known standard for quality management is ISO 9001.
QM is a management task with the following aspects:
- Quality policy - a formal declaration of top management regarding intentions and orientation of the company concerning quality
- Quality objectives - specific measurable, scheduled intermediate stages in the fulfilment of the quality policy
- Responsibility - top management is responsible for the implementation and effectiveness of the QM system
- Process management - the specification of necessary work processes in order to achieve a commercial goal. The responsibilities, authorisations and expected result are also defined. In addition, risks and opportunities that can influence the processes are determined and handled.
